Working on a Saturday.

Came into work this morning and as usual started my morning chatting with my colleague about life since I last saw her.  Oh, the Thanksgiving turkey and family mayhem!  Eating too much and enjoying every minute of it!

Inevitable Fances and I  have to begin our morning, not a bad looking day, looks like it might even be fun!  Unfortunately, we always start talking about how to improve nursing in the hospital that we work in.  Of course our ideas are genius and why does the CEO never think of these things!  Come on!

One thing we agree on is that we feel as, floor nurses, no one ever listens to our ideas, especially since they are so smart and if we ran this hospital it would be the best in BC!  So, why not start a blog where we can openly chat about our ideas and feelings?  Maybe make our ideas heard, and who knows maybe someone will listen.

The first thing that we would change if we were running this hospital is the ER!! Oh, how many people would not like to be able to to that!  This is what we would do....have a 24hr walk-in clinic attached to the ER.  When someone comes in they go to the triage nurse with their complaint, then the nurse directs them to the ER or the Walk In Clinic.  The WIC would be staffed by the community GP's who would all rotate through.   Depending on the community the GP's might only have to do it once a year!  That way the ER doc's are free to actually care for emergency cases!  What a concept!

Everyone please give us feedback on this idea!  What are the problems?  The pitfalls?  Frances and I want to hear from you!

  1. I agree with the walk in clinic thing for sure.

One thing I'd like to see, but it doesn't impact me as a nurse at all, is a birthing center in Victoria. Can you guys get behind that? Start rallying and whatnot?!

    Fun blog :)
